Very interesting indeed. I came a fact that Tesla once decided to go all-vision system and Elon was of on arguments that if humans can see and make decisions, why just a camera vision cannot!
Eventually someone build more advanced system coupling LiDAR and Camera and seems this is popularly used now.
That is great, Elon is doing a great work in the EV industry. The LIDAR and Camera combination is a good innovation in that it will help more accurate and precise decision making for Autonomous vehicles.

Interesting read about LIDAR. There are various types of LIDAR based on its characteristics like the scanning methods- 360 scan, solid-state scan, Flash scan; Dimensionality- 2D, 3D and modulations.
Considering I want to map and room or an entire floor to create a 3D model, which characteristics should i be looking into when i choose a LIDAR for this scenario?
