Integrating new concepts into your personal style - Topic of the day 10/21/23

Are there specific trends, pieces, or brands that you want to integrate into your personal style? How do you plan on going about it? Are you set in your ways style-wise, or are you more open to a more changing and fluid wardrobe?

as a streetwear enjoyer, stuff i'm interested in: - collared shirts - asymmetric details - cardigans / sweater vest - crop tops, mesh stuff seems really really cool too - softer colors. not necessarily pastels but in that direction brands i'm tickled by: ts(s), corridor, kapital, story mfg, auralee, frizmworks i think i could see a pattern with the stuff i'm interested in? like vibes wise i'm trying to reflect a softer personality for getting there i'm not sure. but i think my wardrobe is in a good place to get a little nitty gritty. but i still need to develop my eye for intentions since i get really comfortable wearing the same things when i can and want to see how different things go together i don't have like any specific pieces i'm interested in, in the sense i was like "i specifically want a yellow sweater". i know when i see a fit or a piece i really enjoy even if i'm not sure why. i guess i'm not in a hurry anymore

I play a lot with fabrics, but I haven't expanded into really interesting layering a la @meatwater or @De La Joel. I think my next step is layering beyond "adding a jacket/top layer". It's the only place I feel stuck right now in my style evolution. Finding ways to break up vertical/horizontal lines in interesting ways is fun and hopefully will let me find new ways of wearing my existing wardrobe. I think this will blend really well with the wardrobe I've built because I have an emphasis on interesting fabric and drape. It feels natural to start "adding" some of these pieces as trimming and supporting layers instead of as a statement piece. Outside of that, I have been picking up way more ivy and ivy-adjacent pieces because I've discovered ways of wearing tailoring that fits my decidedly casual vibe.

I’m looking at adding more colour to my wardrobe. I’m happy with my silhouettes mostly, but fits can fall a little flat when it’s just black, white and earth tones. Initial thoughts are accessories and outerwear but still considering how to go about this.

Looking into adding more avant-garde pieces into my rotation, even though that term's pretty nebulous at this point. I've always been fascinated by clothes with strange additions sewn into them and weird cuts, but price tends to be a limiting factor. There's a lot of stuff I do like about "classic menswear" but I hated the rigidity and blandness it tended to give off. Stuff like CDG Homme Deux and Sacai that fuck them up or remake them in nontraditional fabrics hit a nice middle ground that I'd like to have more of.

I think my focus recently has been blending my “fashion” side and my tailoring/menswear side a bit more cohesively together Trying to think in more playful ways about layering And trying to shop my closet a bit and see the throughlines between the different brands and styles i love I find especially when youve had some pieces for a few years you can kinda forget about them or forget how to wear them as easily as you used to Thats what im trying to do with some of the stuff thats kinda been shoved back in the closet for a while

I spent so many years wearing nothing but yyph, guidis, and the associated billowing gabardine things that just wearing jeans and a shirt feels weird and I've been having fun putting things together that are much less attention grabbing and I prefer this much more. I want to wear other types of hats than what is available now with my 24" megamind head. watching the new scorcese flick had me pondering big hats in ways I never have...
