Also, I guess it's also because modular employees are using Linux or macOS to develop mojo itself, and they need native Mac ARM support for themselves. Chris Lattner himself uses an Arm M1 Mac, for in stance.
Internally it was actually supported for quite a while before it was ready for public release.
