love the textured knit and length that hits at the knee, but paying full price for anything at J Crew unfortunately kind of feels like a cuck move

A brand new overcoat of good quality wool and good construction in 2023 is pretty expensive. There's at least a couple hundred, maybe several hundred dollars of pure material cost in one. Like, maybe 2.5-3 yards of 700-1000+ gram tweed from a good mill is not cheap. Overcoats tend to see very little wear-and-tear and especially sweat and stuff, so getting one in great condition for like 1/6 raw material cost on ebay is solid advice unless you absolutely hate second hand.

I am not sure that length is a very useful thing to search for in overcoats. You could do, for example if you usually wear a size 42 jacket, "42L overcoat" (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=42L+overcoat&_sacat=0&_dmd=1&rt=nc) but when you click stuff you will see that the actual sizes and especially lengths vary wildly. What is L or not is somewhat clearer in suit jackets and sport coats, but for overcoats, one man's L is another man's R or S ...

One of the first searches that pops up is https://www.ebay.com/itm/256255611877 which is 44.5 inches long, not quite what you want, but a pretty solid price compared to new. You'd have to refine your own searches, I don't search for overcoats because I live in san jose and already own two :P it would be very difficult for me to convince myself to buy another!

Yeah, there may be a good way to search for overcoat length, but I just don't know what it is. Ebay filters are often trash, and people's sizing is all over the place, especially since overcoats unlike sport coats don't have a "correct" length, they vary wildly due to style and fashion. Anything from thigh length to calf length is considered normal enough...
