If you have a lot of jewelry on that is well coordinated, something like the above ring will look less gaudy because it's blending in

Sometimes gaudy is called for, not always entirely negative anyway. Yeah, simple is easier to make look good to more people.... but if you personally like something enough, y'know, maybe it's worth exploring why and how you could style in that direction :) I think it could look nice if you don't otherwise dress too basic.
