restoring immich

hi I've been backing up the entire immich backup folder to google drive and idrive through rclone I recently erased my HDDs to start over and I was wondering what the best way would be to migrate the immich back up folder I have into the new immich docker container.

if you want to be able to restore by just copying folders, you can pass appdata folders from the host system instead of using docker volumes so you back them up as well. This approach requires stopping the server before backing up though.

Library would work as well, but it doesn't have any user data, albums, shared links, etc. You should backup your database either way in the future. Like library is an option for re-importing, yes. But you still need to backup if you want to restore anything else next time.

damn. so do you recommend that i just reupload everything? I can. its just gona take a week lol unless immich has made things more efficient since januaryt

Without the database you don't have too many choices.
