[solved, sorta] proton takes above 40 seconds to launch
games running through proton hang for an abnormal time on preparing launch and execution.
logs provided show me launching kero blaster on steam with copied terminal output and steam.log output file.
i have a video showing steam (proton 8.03 for video and logs, happens on any version) vs lutris (wine-ge). kero blaster can run outside of steam and - if it matters - is the smallest size in my steam library (lutris is a copied exe from steamapps/common)
i don't know if its my steam deck thats the issue, I might just reinstall steamos and see if it still happens.

🎊 - disabling dns over tls allows the wifi to be on and proton to launch at under 20 seconds again.

video might be broken ..
i dont know how discord
sorry thought i uploaded it. i was away lol
i'll clarify and say that the gnome session was running on wayland
but i remember this happening on plasma with X11
so thats why the libextest error is happening in the output i think
the problem is not occuring on steam os 3.4 or 3.5. it only takes about 20 seconds when first installing proton to set it up for a game, but afterwords it launches and executes immeditely. I'm reinstalling bazzite after tests because steam os 3
That just always happens, it's because it's 32bit and steam is as well
So anything 64 bit steam loads will throw that
Ignore it, it's noise
Anyways I'm sorry to say I have no idea what's going on here
I've got two decks and neither act this way
it's okay. I reinstalled bazzite and it seems to occur again.
it could be the rpmfusion repo, but idk.
maybe a mirror closest to me has a weird steam?
o wait the image is built on github
nvm
i think i'll just have to bare with proton being funky. i can provide the logs I got from 3 games on steamos if you want
and compare the 2 other games to logs from bazzite deck
I also feel like startup times of games are a little higher than on steamos, but definitely not as high as that. At least not for the smaller games I've been playing
eh. it's a fair trade for something that feels alot more like a linux distro than an applience os
i used the offline iso image this time. it was launching at a good time now, but after updating throgh bazzite portal, the bug occurs again. :/
i think ill go back to the previous image to see if it happens with the new steam in home
try
rpm-ostree update
in a terminal
wait for it to finish and rebooti'm on the latest image for bazzite-deck-gnome
it says no upgrade available
oh
i found a solution to the problem but i don't know why it works...
turning off the wifi makes games launch at the intended times
i only figured this out after moving location and wanting to go into offline mode
limiting the wifi also makes games launch faster but very slow compared to how it should be
idk why this seems to only be happening to me though
steams offline mode with wifi on will make games launch slow, so it's wifi that's the culprit
or not wifi per se but maybe something to do with networkmanager. i have no clue

That explains it, really doesn't seem to like certain people
Might have to make it optional
dont really know why it doesn't play well with proton though
