Just got my visa approved, my course (CPA) will start form Jan..
Can you guys help me with things I need to be aware of and I need to do once I land in Canada...
Few Questions from my side..
1 will they give PWGP after graduating?
2 how is the college experience (just need the reality and what to expect)
3 about the diversity there, climate etc...
Thanks in Advance!

I guess the experience depends on the person but 3 weeks in and I’m finding it pretty mid, I’m the type of person that just wants to get in and get out as soon as I can so idk
Diversity? I’d say it’s like 80% asians tbh, predominantly from india maybe 50% of that
Can only answer 2 and 3:
2. The experience is decent but its a commuter school in the sense most people commute far and prefer going home quick after class. But you can make tons of friends in the discord or by your classes if you are social. There isnt really a party culture like movies show though. But aside from that theres so much to do in the city regardless.
3. The schools chill but its not diverse at all. 90% of students come from one region with the rest being one-offs in a sense from random regions. If you're worried about people discriminating or smth like that I wouldnt. I think everyone finds a way to fit in and enjoy their experience.
Edit: sorry lol i just realized you were asking about Canada, not Campus Life as a whole. Still good info to know tho
yeah, Im also the same type of person,
alright, partying is not a big deal for me, the main question I forgot to ask in average how many hrs/days i spend in college during a normal weekend.
I'm in my first sem of cpa, and I spend in college around 12 hours a week
My schedule is pretty convenient, whiteout any windows tho
Ohh, great that you have it like that
so Im asuming only 2-3hrs a day?
do we have college 6 days a week?
you choose your own schedule
pretty sure that it is closed on weekends
here's my schedule as an example
green is online
yeah and those two deadlines are just reminders for me, ignore them
yeah sure.
thanks for sharing tho..
ur welcome
mind telling things that I need to know before hand, set me up to realisitc expectations and what to expect
had a hard time understanding how it everything works here too before I came
you need to chose good profs
also how much weeks before should I come to canada, like my course starts at jan 8
noted...
I go to SIA (International academy), and from my profs here are generally worse then in Newnham
Use ratemyprof for choosing
okay, sure. My campus is Newnham
good for you, I hope to transfer soon
good luck with that.
I came on august 24th, when my classes started on sept 5
ohh 2w before Ig
You can ask others here for recommendations for profs
Also keep in mind that you going to spend 2-3 times more studying at home then at campus
Alright, this is new got it
sure will do..
Anyways, Thanks for the info...
2. Your experience will be heavily influenced by your professors, so do everything in your power to get the best ones. Realize you will probably have some bad ones, such is life, it is an experience everyone should live through. But even with a bad professor you can do well in the course, and learn a lot. It's on you to make it what you want it to be.
alright, thanks noted..
Hey just wanted an update, how are the classes going?
Great overall, what aspect do you mean?
Is SIA same as Markham?
yes
How bad is it? Do professors not provide guidance at all? If you could share some feedback, I'd greatly appreciate it
I have a 1 outright horrible prof, most are pretty meh, and one good compared to others. 2 are igonring my emails for about a month now, I'm keep sending new ones just to know how long it will take for a response (topic of emails is not critical for me). Idk about guidance, never asked for help, but on ipc144 we have a lab session where both the lab assistant and the prof are ready to help. ig it depends on what luck you get with profs, mine almost all have like a 2.3 on ratemyprof, if you can go newnham, go newnham. there is no reason to pick sia over it (trying to change campuses rn)
Oh I see. 😭 Thank you so much for the feedback, I'll keep that in mind
