Plex server
Hi! I'm trying to create a Plex server on my main gaming PC with Bazzite OS installed. A lot of shit went down lately and I almost broke my Steam Deck. The Steam Deck community has been very helpful with everything and they helped me rescue my Steam Deck. I really want to start a Plex server on my main gaming rig because I am starting to feel like it's not viable right now to install it on the deck. And I want to do it without messing with fstab anyone have any better ideas?

unless your videos are all on your primary drive, fstab will be involved
as I tried to tell you previously
whether you have to manually edit it or allow the tools to do it is up to you
Any answer that doesn't include messing with fstab is the wrong answer
Sorry to say
Damn! Alright. I guess i have too. Fine I'm only doing this for Plex.

Ok. I do have an update with some help I do have the server running now. It just doesn't have remote access even though it is enabled.
/run/media/normand64/Entertainment/
^that's where I want Plex to detect my content.
/run/media/normand64/Entertainment/Deckflix/Movies/
/run/media/normand64/Entertainment/Deckflix/Shows/

/run/media/normand64/Entertainment/Youtube preservation/
/run/media/normand64/Entertainment/education/
/run/media/normand64/Entertainment/Sound/Music/Zune/
^these are going to be the separate folders for other varieties of content.
i mean
would gnome disks work?
even if you use KDE, you can layer
gnome-disk-utility
with rpm-ostree
not super familiar with this though so if GNOME Disks is missing something from fstab... you gotta go into thatif this is a permanent drive
get it out of /run/media
those are for temp mounts that may not existing later on
belongs in /mnt/
hmm no those are here to stay. That's where I want them.
that's not how permanent drives should be mounted
you will cause yourself problems in the future
I don't know these things! 😓
should I just wait then? Because you're kind of right I was telling a half truth. For now they're stuck but I am planning on buying more storage and it's possible i may move these folders one day. Heck these aren't even all of the movies I was able to burn because my disk reader writer was not compatible with bluerays. Since this thing is already half full I know that by the time I'm ready to to the bluerays, well, I'm gonna have to upgrade to bigger storage. So maybe I should just forget about for now. If I know that is in my future and wait until I really know if the content will remain permanent.
I'm looking into one day buying an 8tb internal ssd for the PC in addition to that I want to get an 8tb external. That's what I'm really looking forward too. So, if I have this in mind. maybe I should give it a rest.
ok so this is just for automounting discs to /run/media right?
oh not in /run/media nvm
loool
/mnt/ yes

look this is a goofy ass article to recommend because it's by PopOS but like install gnome disks and follow the mount drive options. i feel like this application nearly replaces fstab for most uses and i wish KDE's partition utility was just as advanced

Auto-Mount Second Hard Drive(s)
If you ordered your computer with additional storage, it comes pre-formatted and ready for use. For instructions on automatically mounting an additional hard drive, check out this extra drive documentation.
and yea mount them to /mnt/
I wasn't thinking this had anything to do with automounting things this time, I'm done with the Steam Deck I don't want to do the ssh server on there anymore or install Plex anymore. Plex isn't viable on the Deck, so now, I switched gears and decided to move forward with it on my PC. what i believe i need is to get "remote access" to detect the drives.
oh
Yeah, I've done all I could on the Steam Deck side of things. I'm pretty much done and given up.
So, what I was trying to tell the other here is fine if I have to do fstab for Plex I'll do it i just don't want to brick my PC like i almost did to the Steam Deck.
ok yeah im lost im sorry i just thought this was about automounting drives which is something that, IMO at least, is kind of hell without a GUI since it relies on fstab and always like to recommend people use gnome-disks for that, even if they layer it temporarily but like im lost now lol
i use a plex server myself, but it's not mine
and i did not set it up
i just gave up the hardware for it
No, this is actually part of a process I started in the Steam Deck community server.
eww that place
jk
So, I came here because I wanted help from Bazzite OS experts since i switched gears.
If you want a refresher theres like two side projects in the Steam Deck server I was trying to get help with you can read those if you want too. One is ssh and the other is Plex.

That's how I got up until this point. So, now all I really need is to get remote access working on Bazzite OS with my main PC (nvidia driver) because I'm giving up on automounting things with the steam deck.
I lost count of how many factory resets my Steam Deck went through.
