Feeling overwhelmed and underwhelmed by the choice of fashion items at the same time

Is anyone in the same position as me? I feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount of brands/options for clothes but as soon as I start looking for something more specific all these options seem to vanish. How do you all go about finding items you like. A related issue is that I kinda don't know how to shop esp. in regards to looking for vintage/used pieces and sales. What are your strategies there?

I go to stockist websites that have very good curation and look through for stuff I like then search the brands on eBay/yjp etc Or I go to thrift stores I know what you mean though, there’s a trillion pieces of clothing but when i want to find something I actually like enough to buy it’s hard

I look at what I have, and see what I might get working with it. Also browsing thrift stores Also bricking a lot of fits

Good idea. I feel like another problem that I have specifically is that I consume mostly Englisch content but I don't live in the UK or the US so a lot of stuff doesn't translate. But that is a seperate issue My current thing that is proving hard to find are brown derbies I like

Worth looking through Alden and seeing if you like theirs Then you can just use the model number on aldenmodelproject and find all the eBay listings I got mine from the uk and shipping wasn’t egregious

Good idea. Biggest hurdle for used shoes might be my shoe size Might have phrased the derby thing wrong as well. I was able to find shoes I liked but they were all about 500 and I wanted to spend about halve

Yeah used is great for that but it can be hard to find your size if you’re outside the normal range

I think in US shoe sizes I'm a 13 Btw. my current strategy for buying is mostly going item by item. But I feel like I should expand where I'm looking next. Thrifting is cool and I have like 1 good store in my city some of the others kinda suck though. It's probably just that I haven't been shopping well for long enough Just checked on ebay and a few other sites for shoes my size and all did not have a single model. I feel like vintage for shoes might not work out for me

How did you search on ebay? I just searched Alden for results worldwide and there are over 100 results limiting for us size 13 (check Alden sizing guides BTW probably) and at least a handful were derbies. "Alden derby" bought up 15 results, though imo sometimes its better to sift so as to not miss some mislabeled stuff.

I limited my search to Europe maybe I should search wider

Hm, admittedly I don't know what popular services might be in europe. There may be better results on europe-oriented services if there are any but then I'm sure that may result in shoe size range limits in and of itself, ha. I just know ebay here in Aus is practically dead for a lot of brands so it's better to show by who can ship here. It would be better if you could search wider of course but I assume the europe thing might make that a bit more difficult or costly 😅

Not sure about used stuff but generaly speaking for clothes I would have to add about 30% on top for customs and vat
