Is this THE Navy Hopsack for the FW from Spier?

https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/navy-hopsack-8296-sc01 Saw this was Navy Hopsack but wasn’t 100% wool - still a good choice for a first sport coat?

I don't like synthetics in my tailoring but if you do that's totally fine

Spier has a million hopsacks - that one has more texture than I generally prefer but it’s not bad (though I’d go for a different one)

Can you send a link of the one you would go with? I’ve been looking for a navy blazer for almost a year now and they haven’t had a 100% wool in 44L that I’ve found

Wow they really don’t have anything in stock right now. They usually have 2 or 3 basic hopsacks but there’s nothing right now. Have you checked eBay/grailed? 44L is going to be hard to come by as they only make a few for each run.

I know right? Brutal out here - I’ve tried eBay but I’ll give grailed a shot

Are you set on something more contemporary/Italian like Spier? There are a lot of good vintage blazers out there if you’re ok with something more ivy.

I’ve just heard Spier is the way to go for a first navy blazer but I am open for literally anything

If it’s your first blazer sticking to Spier is definitely the easiest route. Once you figure out what you do/don’t like it’ll be easier to go vintage.

I'd just email them and ask when they're stocking more hopsack varieties

Saw they just posted this one - https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/navy-serge-blazer-8145-sc02 Not loving the buttons but wanted to hear you guys thoughts?

Well, you can always get different buttons pretty affordably I prefer my navy blazers to be a lighter navy but that's just personal preference This one is definitely intended for the upcoming season - darker and heavier/warmer Swelled edges are a nice touch if you like them, though if you don't then you obviously wouldn't

You know I totally agree with all of that, good to know buttons are replaceable for cheap - will keep my eyes peeled! Thanks gimp

I would hold out for hopsack if you want an all-round blazer fabric
