Exclude faces from detection
Is there a way to remove detected faces from the "Explore" tab to exclude people you don't care about? random strangers, etc?

Yes, you can hide faces via web interface. Mouse over and click the triple dot.
ok wow. I wasn't clicking "show all" first Thanks!
Happy to help. You can also merge faces there as well. Super handy when you have 4 or more of the same person.
Piggy backing off of this, is there a way to exclude face detection entirely when running import using CLI? Similar to the example mentioned here, I have lots of photos from festivals / public places where 100+ faces become detected that I need to manually hide. It would be nice disable face recognition for photos I know don't have any faces I want to recognize / save.
There’s a toggle for disabling face recognition in the web interface.
Are you referring to disabling face recognition under the machine learning settings? Would the goal to disable it for imports you don't want to recognize, then re-enable it for photos you do want to recognize?
I also submitted a feature request for the same quesiton. If the above works, I will consider that acceptable for my use case and can withdraw my feature request submittion.

Yep. I think if you’re sure you don’t want face recognition for a bunch of photos from CLI import, disable it and import. Then reenable it afterwards.
Never tried it myself though. But I think it should work. Keep in mind tough that if you later need to run face recognition on missing assets, those photos will go through face recognition.
Thanks, I am trying that now.
No problem. I think there’s an alternative to this disabling process. On the page where you manage face visibility, there’s an “eye” icon. It toggles hiding all faces. So you can let face recognition run, hide all faces, then click on the faces you want to keep. Should be better than clicking on all the ones you want to hide.
Turning off face recognition worked well. I like that other approach for when i eventually need to do rescan missing faces.
