Ideal Affordable Chambray Shirt
Hi,
These were on sale during labor day weekend and I sort of regret not getting them: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/levis-mens-worker-relaxed-fit-button-down-chambray-shirt?ID=16332622&CategoryID=20627&isDlp=true
I couldn't pull the trigger though. What do you look for in a sub $100 chambray workshirt? Feels like one of the very few items that would actually be essential to my wardrobe (if that's even possible).
Thank you for any help!

I have a Uniqlo one that I really like the fit of and I got for practically pennies.
It’s held up very well but it’s a very thick fabric
@Erik thank you 🙂
is it this one?
Also, what are your thoughts on shade of blue for a chambray shirt?
Yes, it even has a little pen slot in the pocket that I use at work
I prefer a lighter color like the one you posted, I think they’re easier to pair but that’s also my own wardrobe. A darker color might work better, it’s really up to you and the clothes you normally wear
@doug_. Has one too 😂
His is a different fabric though
thank you!
the pen slot is a nice touch
You can probably find it secondhand for cheaper too if you don’t mind that
i'll go try on the levi's one though I think i'll be forced to wait for the next sale if I want it
do you have any thoughts on ideal buttons?
the levi's and uniqlo buttons look p similar
Wythe New York
Chambray Workshirt - Rinsed Indigo
I know we say this again and again, but this is a true classic. Hardy chambray shirts were the workforce shirt used by everyone from US Naval Sailors, railroad workers out west, to grainbasket farmers and their families. Loved by Paul Newman in "Cool Hand Luke" and evolved into a Rivera staple in the 60s and 70s. Chamb
this one is gorg but $168 is a no from me for a chambray shirt lol
Snaps are always cool but yeah the Uniqlo one has okay buttons
The Levi’s probably has similar
Wythe though 😍
Frizmworks has great options - they are cut a bit generously and tend to have some interesting details like asymmetric pockets
I think this is one from their last season but they tend to do a few each year
Not quite sub 100 but the Taylor Stitch chambray is on sale for $102 right now and I love this thing. The buttons really do it for me
@604arun @booktroll_ thank you!!
@604arun do you know if frizmworks doesn't do size S? Smallest I see is M
Yea M only, id double check measurements. It’s definitely not a traditional cut and almost a shirt jacket type piece

I think you should wait until you find one you love vs checking it off a list as an "essential wardrobe" item
but fwiw i've been thinking of getting this one but i've been keeping my eye on this one https://www.denimio.com/5333a-chambray-long-sleeved-work-shirt.html
i'd rather pay a little more to get something by a denim or workwear company
looking for a used vintage one could be worthwhile too. @shrimp_my_ride has an older Wrangler one he wears that looks great https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1137934072774148218
This one is denim and I've had it for almost 20 years!
Agreed that you don't need to go expensive with a piece until you know what you really want.
Not quite chambray but: https://putthison.com/my-favorite-fall-shirt-costs-29-its-so-great/

My Favorite Fall Shirt Costs $29
It’s so great when you come across something you love, but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Especially in...
I also got a vintage Panhandle Slim chambray shirt for like $45 or so in Montana which I LOVE. If you stalk ebay I'm sure you could find something similar!
I have three so far that I love, all pretty affordable: Uniqlo that was on sale for $20 and two different Japanese chambray Wallace and Barnes on sale for $40-50 each.
Each is unique in its own way, the Uniqlo a bit heavier and rougher, and the W&B's super light and soft, with some nice chain stitching details, and BLUE buttons. 💙
I'd recommend starting with something like these, just staking them out until the price drops. Also a ton of really cool vintage options.
@paintedvoid thank you so much for the great advice!!
You're welcome!
