First selvedge?

Any thoughts on these from Todd Snyder for a first pair of selvedge denim? Looking for something with a straight/relaxed fit and high rise (above 12 inches). I've also been looking at some options from Unbranded and Naked & Famous below $180. https://www.toddsnyder.com/collections/sale/products/classic-straight-fit-selvedge-medium-wash-crease-j-blue

I'm really not a fan of the artificial creases etc on these. But tastes vary.

Selvedge denim is kind of a long term investment cause the idea is that you wear them for a long time. I would personally spring for a nicer pair since theoretically you’ll be keeping them for a long time but obviously that depends on your budget

Adding to that, I wouldn't be looking to buy a pair that has had fake creases and whiskers added to it. One of the big parts of Selvedge/raw is that they will fade in a way that is unique to you wearing them and doing things in them

Often times. The artificial crease don’t match your natural body movements which can make them look kind of off

i have quite a collection of raw now and unlike many into fade, i enjoy the fit and fabrics each brands provide. Many avoid washing for high contrast, i myself just wash it whenever i feel uncomfortable in the pairs. if u know ur size, ebay is the gold mine. 316, orslow, pbj and so on…. available at fraction of msrp i will check orslow 105 or 107 one wash. that pairs is a sleeper than can develop into a really comfortable jeans

I’d go with a denim brand over Todd Snyder. I’d go N&F over Unbranded but look at their True Guy instead of Easy Guy, which has a harsh taper. I’d probably sooner recommend looking at a Japanese brand though, you might be able to get a pair of TCBs in your range — maybe 505 or 60s I’ll also echo that the creasing and pre-fading on those jeans is… honestly, it’s an abomination. If it’s got any rawness left in it it’s going to look especially weird if your natural creases don’t align. And I’m not sure why they’d throw a grease into the front of the pants.
