Tailoring on a Flight Jacket?
I was looking at this Flight Jacket and after looking at the size chart and speaking with customer service they recommended a size that seems like it would work best for my chest and shoulders, but might leave the sleeves a bit long. Not sure if something like this would be feasible to take to a tailor to have the sleeve length reduced a bit:

It can be done, but shortening the sleeves on anything with a ribbed cuff is usually quite spendy if you want it to look good
Thanks, that's what I thought.
With cuffs like that, I wouldn't want to do it.
They could take the length from the other side (unsew at the shoulder then sew back) but it'll be a lot more expensive then shortening at the cuff
Thanks all. I was on the fence anyway… Well, let me pivot and ask some advice: my measurements:
Height: 175.5 cm
Chest: 100 cm
Sleeve (straight arm): 57 cm
Shoulder: 44 cm
The jacket is from Spier & MacKay. It would be my first purchase from them. I really like the look of a lot of their stuff, but I’m not sure about taking a hit on shipping and fees trying to find the right size.
Customer service recommended the size 40:

Oops. That’s the inches chart. Here’s the cm:
Where are you located? People recommend not buying S&M if you're in europe; import costs too high to be price competitive.
I’m in the States, actually. The South. I know the metric measurements was probably misleading, I just find them easier/more clear to work with.
haha okay makes sense
The thing to do is measure the sleeves on something you already own that fits well. The sleeve length given in the chart looks very typical of many brand’s sizing
Unfortunately, I don't really have something that already fits well. Kind of a catch-22. I need to know my measurements to get something that fits well, but I can't measure something that fits well to get my measurements. So I'm just going off the measurements I was able to get with my wife, but how that actually aligns to the chart is a bit puzzling.
Not sure why they would recommend the size 40 when the chest is a good 13 cm (5 inches plus) bigger. Based on my measurements (particularly chest and shoulder) I would have thought the 36 or 38, at most.
The 38 ought to fit.
