English Release of Susumu Higa's Okinawa Manga Delayed Due to Chinese Printer
๐๏ธ The English release of Susumu Higa's Okinawa manga has been delayed ๐ due to publishing issues. Joint publishers Mangasplaining and Fantagraphics Books switched printers after their Chinese contractor wanted to erase Taiwan mentions from the interview included in the manga. โ The original release was scheduled for July, but the issue pushed it ๐ back to August 22.
๐ Okinawa features the impacts of war on the Okinawan people, caught between invading American forces and Japan, once their colonizer, bringing the past to life in the present day. ๐ฅ The arc is split into two closely connected manga ๐งฉ, Sword of Sand and Mabui. It will be serialized 2 to 3 times per month, with a collective print copy planned to be out in Winter 2022 from Fantagraphics Books. โ๏ธ
