Best transitional / light jacket for fall?

What would you guys say are the best options for basic, "fits every outfit", kind of jacket for the months before it gets really cold? Preferably nothing too formal. What's your opinion on this Corduroy trucker jacket for example? Maybe too bright for fall? Should I maybe look at overshirts?

Totally dependent on what you wear on the regular

The leathers just get thicker or thinner.

Super basic. For the colder months it will exclusively be light or dark straight-fit Jeans or cloth pants and basic, unicolor T-shirts or Sweatshirts. That's also why I'm looking for the most basic kind of jacket.

F I E L D J A C K E T ;) No, but seriously though. Overshirt. Trucker jacket. Chore coat. Field jacket / safari jacket (not the same but very similar in design.) Plus the ever-popular leather jacket.

I would do all of these before overshirt tbh. I feel like they're kind of a nothing garment

Only cool ones I've seen do are interestingly cut in some way or another

I like overshirts... in theory... I don't actually own any though. Field jackets are my jam. Linen ones, heavy cotton ones, wool ones.

I don't have this one, but mine is the same model, similar in style and texture and color. But a different material. I do like this one a lot because duh, it's a lot like mine (but I dare say I like this one more than mine.) https://www.epauletbrand.com/products/field-jacket-in-rope-dyed-indigo-sashiko-pumice-washed

Field Jacket in Rope Dyed Indigo Sashiko Pumice Washed
This Pumice Washed garment goes through a three stage process for aging. It's washed with coarse stones, bathed in an enzyme soak, and then treated with silicone. The result is an authentic light blue patina and gorgeous tonal variations at the seams. These pieces are soft, comfortable, and completely pre-shrunk.  Comp

I have two from Spier & Mackay. One linen, one wool. (For some reason imgur isn't loading.)

Anyways obviously there're a lot of other options I don't think there is such a thing as "basic and fits every outfit." Maybe the overshirt, though as said before, the overshirt is maybe a taaaad bland, especially if you want it so neutral it fits everything?

Personally, living in the north Midwest, I really like thicker flannels over a zip up hoodie or crewneck. I get boxy fit Carhartt flannels and have them hemmed (short torso gang gang). For actual jackets, my grandfather's hand me down M-51 and a vintage lee 101j are my staples. I also have an old Sears denim chore coat that goes over knitwear pretty nicely
