Online Suit Shopping
Hi folks,
Looking to buy a new suit and I live in BFE, so my options are either drive four hours one way to the nearest reputable store or get some shit online which is what I’m leaning towards. Just looking for general advice, places to find quality suits online, what to avoid, any helpful tips, or if this is just a horrible idea.
What I’m thinking is a tobacco-colored cotton suit with a fuller fit (I guess that’s what you’d call it?), but I’m a slim guy (5’9, 140 lbs) so I’m hoping that I’ll have better luck getting something my size online and have it tailored to fit. I recently obtained my measurements as well from a tailor, so I have a rough idea of what size would be appropriate.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Spier's contemporary fit might do the trick for you
It's easier to buy a suit based on the measurements of the suit itself vs your body measurements
Dang where's my copypasta for this advice?
It's really hard to buy a first suit online. You really want to measure a suit that fits you well and use those measurements to shop online.
Whether this means owning a well fitting (and usually tailored) suit and measuring that, or, going to stores and finding the best fitting suits and measuring those ... either way, you want measurements.
A tobacco cotton suit? Look up putthison and dieworkwear and permanentstyle for inspiration. Some of those guys really love the brown cotton suit. One urbancomposition as he's known online has some great photos too. It's an interesting choice. It has a certain aesthetic to it that isn't super commonly worn. Nothing wrong with it, but it is one of those choices that's a little outside the most common ones.
Thank you both! I’m not crazy about the look of typical worsted wool, it’s a bit formal for my occupation so I’m looking for something a little more casual. Def a fan of urbancomposition, man has impeccable style.
Relevant article from a mentioned website for anyone interested in cotton suits. The idea of a suit developing a “patina” really appeals to me: https://www.permanentstyle.com/2016/07/the-appeal-of-the-cotton-suit-bespoke-from-elia-caliendo.html

I've always found cotton very appealing for summer suits, but historically haven't had much luck with them.I had a navy one made by Choppin & Lodge, but the make was really too English and structured for the material (my fault, not theirs). And I had a green one from Madrid's Reillo last year, which...
