How to get the 60-years-in-storage smell out of milsurp?
Hi,
I got a milsurp jacket today from Universal Works, and it's great, but it smells like the ancient swedish army surplus tent I used as a kid.
I gave it a cold wash but the smell is still there - sun drying it now. Any tips?

I got this old french paratrooper bag that had the same problem -- once it dried after the wash, it smelled GOOD, but every time it gets wet you can smell the 'military' scent again LOL
Ah fingers crossed the smell goes once it's dry then, thanks
Hang in a garment bag with a vinegar soaked paper towel at the bottom or some baking soda
Damn that's some advanced tech, thanks I'll try that if needed
+1 to the advice, soak with vinegar and baking soda. Works well for vintage, used, or mildewy clothes that smell rank. Soak overnight, then toss into the washer is how I like to do it.
I mention mildew because these comments remind me of that smell. I’m sensitive to that smell on clothes and it’s mold that basically revive itself once the material gets into contact with moisture. Even after you’ve washed clothes and nuked them in the dryer, they’ll come back unless you do some form of antibacterial cleaning. Tents can get mildewy too.
Spray with vodka from a plant spray bottle.
