Black Greasy Gibson Shoe | Solovair | Handmade in England
Black Greasy Gibson Shoe made of leather using Goodyear welted construction with a signature soft suspension sole. Handmade in Wollaston, Northamptonshire, England.
Dr Martens are also an option
The ones in the guide are Solovair greasy gibson but Doc 1461s are a very similar shoe. There's a somewhat outdated list of similar shoes here https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/im35rd/the_black_chunky_derby_list/
Great ! Thanks for your help
wondering, what kind of formality would these shoes fall under?
I see these worn causally all the time - especially in brown. I think the chunkiness of the sole/the Br*tish workwear heritage of solovair and DM makes them more versatile than standard oxfords.
on the other end of things though, how formal could you take them?
Wearing them with a suit would usually be a bad call
Given the contrast stitch and sole is pretty prominent on docs
but say, a blazer, constructed or unconstructed? 🤔 seems like a really good versatile option if they can do that, as few things work with suits anyways
i definitely see that about the constrast stitch
Yeah I like it with a blazer, something with patch pockets
if you'd rather go towards a more minimal/formal version, look for Tricker's Daniel
They are way much expensive
quite the gap in quality tho
you can easily find them sub 300€ used
