Basic outfits for fat guy

Yello, 6'0 280lbs, I am fat as hell and wear 2xl or 3xl. Yes I know I need to lose weight. In the mean time I need outfits and I have absolutely no style. Looking for casual clothes I can wear to the bar / out socializing / dates / etc. The one in the photo is basically the only thing better than a T-shirt i wear. Any advice??

Pic reference for my body type. I typically also wear Nike AF1s for shoes Budget = nothing crazy, like to keep it under 60 per item

DRESSING FOR LARGER MALE FIGURES 🧵 Want to do a quick thread on how to dress if you're a larger guy. There's not a lot of info or inspiration online about this, and I feel this leads people to think that they don't have options or can't dress well bc of their body type.

this being said, I don't believe that your body type has to limit your personal style. Tons of great outfits in the #waywt, with a great deal of different styles represented. If you find a style you like, I'd advise you not to write it off just because the person you see wearing it has a different body type to you.

tbh thats what ive been doing, figured most things that look good on slim guys will def not look good on me so i just ignore it haha
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
I think this one looks good but i doubt i could pull it off
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
i usually wear like simple and dark colors dont own any white pants or a brown jacket
artvandelayimporting
artvandelayimporting•12mo ago
solid! white pants are scary at first haha
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
so cream would be a better choice in most situations ?
artvandelayimporting
artvandelayimporting•12mo ago
it's personal preference, but for me yes
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
is the only way to find out to just buy em both and see what happens
artvandelayimporting
artvandelayimporting•12mo ago
definitely an option. whenever I have pure white pants they just look so bright to me, the cream is a lot more muted which I think lends itself better to more looks
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
oh word that makes sense i like to wear white tho for some reason it always looks good on me but thanks ill look at getting these
artvandelayimporting
artvandelayimporting•12mo ago
for sure if you prefer the white and think it'll work best then I'd say get white. At the end of the day we're talking about your style

Soul•12mo ago
i dont got style lmao 0 it makes sense to try em out my wardrobe is just t shirts and jeans man 😂

jawntanamo_bae•12mo ago
Throw in the right shoes and a t-shirt with jeans is a solid fit

artvandelayimporting•12mo ago
I mean I've seen worse jackets haha. I don't love it but I don't think it's impossible to style either. Wearing it over a collared shirt is a good instinct would go better with lighter pants as right now everything is kinda blending together color-wise
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
danggg i wasted my money but yeh ill try em with khaki pants or som
artvandelayimporting
artvandelayimporting•12mo ago
nah I don't think so! I think khaki pants would work great trust me dude you're doing a lot better than you think I'd also leave it unbuttoned weather permitting

^this. Definitely team jacket open I think that the thread linked above from Derek Guy has some great inspiration for bigger guys. I’m generally on the larger scale for an off the rack clothing myself, so dressing can be hard at times, but something helpful is good inspiration

One person in particular worth checking out is Ethan Newton. He is a bigger guy, but arguably one of the best dressed dudes around: https://instagram.com/ethandesu?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

if you're into this type of jacket I'd recommend this: https://www.levi.com/US/en_US/clothing/men/outerwear/trucker-jacket/p/723340130 a little over budget but you can probably find them cheaper on like Macy's or Amazon. Even second hand if you're not opposed to that

Hey, you could absolutely rock white / ecru pants. Uniqlo has some wide fit corduroys. https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/corduroy-pleated-wide-leg-trousers-462319.html I am around 250 lbs and also like to wear darker colours for tops. I don’t have a better pic right now but what you see there is my usual fall uniform, that works very well. When the weather allows for it I like to use an overshirt or a cardigan to manipulate the silhouette.
Corduroy Pleated Wide Leg Trousers | UNIQLO UK
Easy yet elegant. Versatile pants for any occasion.- Now with a straighter cut and a slightly lower rise in response to customer feedback. - 2-way stretch corduroy fabric. - Stretchy waist belt design looks good with a top tucked in.- The images shown may include colors that are not available.

Ethan is major style inspo for me and i think he does a great job of proving the though that bigger guys can’t wear certain things is wrong. I’m 5’10 225lbs and when i began my fashion journey i felt very similar to you and one if the reasons is because off the rack clothes are not usually designed with fat people in mind. I would really recommend taking your measurements. Take a garment that you really like the fit of and measure its width, length, inseam, ect and base alot of your purchasing decisions off that. I have my measurements down pat so i can make a lot more informed decision when buying something that it will fit my body in the way that i want
jawntanamo_bae
jawntanamo_bae•12mo ago
This is excellent advice. I think that understanding your measurements is really helpful for anyone’s style journey, but it’s especially important if you’re bigger or curvier.

ugh there was a bigger guy who used to post on mfa decked head to toe in lemaire, as well as someone who posted in r/malefashion who was always rocking the yohji... shit was inspiring This may just be me, but I feel like one decent guideline is that heavier fabrics look better on bigger frames. You get cooler break-in, and the structure gets a lot more dramatic. It's why Matty Matheson and Ethan Newton look so fucking good in workwear
jimi
jimi•12mo ago
heavy fabrics are a godsend

1.fit if it dont fit it just dont 2.layering your flannel and shirt are alot more flattering than you realize. 3. Remember to have fun..if you feel like you in your outfits cant nobody tell you shit 4. Matty mattheson does seem pretty cool ngl. Jonah hill did well imo for someone who gains and loses weight so easily. 5.posture also helps so so so much.

any recs for flannel? this is the only one i own got it from a gabes
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
Yes! So what i would dois if ur looking for just some stuff to pad out ur wardrobe id shop with whitetails. I owned one of their coats their patterns dont look terrible. Its not super thin material. If ur looking for legit flannel look at places.like banana republic They make a really good uhh shacket? 80 wool 20 cotton and idk It feels so substantial Also try other classics like putting a blazer or button up on I cant stress fit enough. As a bbw i know fashion doesnt keep us in mind But how you wear it and how it fits is.paramount to everything besides personal taste You can get 2-3 looks off the same three pieces Umm. Shoes make or break most outfitd. Feels like im wearing my dads coat and im almost 30 Also what are ur sizes?
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
I am 2xl or 3xl depending and shoes i usually wear are white air force 1s not sure about blazer though never even thought about wearing those casually
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
Nice. I mean..like business casual but it appeals to some men as they age. Lemme try to find some inspi Don't reccomend fast fashion but this model has sauce

The trick is to ,imo either tuck it or do one button at the top or middle.
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
so like, i could just wear something like that out in public casually and wouldn't look out of place?
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
Depends on where youre going i reckon That type of stuff makes me feel good so unless im at like somewhere i know im gettjng dirty or a kid function
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
i can see it, and i do like covering up my moobs with a layer any way to style it with jeans or do u need it to be suit pants like
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
Really situational. You totally can be in my limited biased experience youll look like the dad off a mid 00s sitcom Really broad shouldered men look nice with that look though. I guess alot of this stuff is it just has to be you ask me as many questions as you need. Only a few steps further but i love helping
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
fashion is hard 😢
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
I would do Jeans + flannel, button up and chinos Nah theres just alot of noise. Shit like this has a big market for it because there's no one universal answer.
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
i have some button ups and chinos, i usually wear them to work
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
Id love to see ur progessions. Take some fit pics and or add me if youd like With button ups patterns make em stand out. U like em slimmer or true to form to avoid that like hawaiian shirt look. Which is fine..imo..just played out
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
so for me most of my weight is in my stomach, so even though above my stomach i am a 17.5" 34/35, my stomach makes me have to go up a size or do a regular fit and be lucky going up a size makes it look so much bigger on me
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
I uhh. I resonate with that more than im comfortbake admitting Going for the "tall" sizes helps. Dont go to a big and tall atore.
Soul
Soul•12mo ago
do u tuck them in
Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago

Soul
Soul•12mo ago

Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago

Soul•12mo ago

Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago
Vibes. One of the tips honestly is gym When I worked at amazon amd my nice clothes actually fit Even being thick. Being toned fills stuff out well So the biggest takeaways are 1.fit 2. Be personally happy with it 3. Fitness/posture

Soul•12mo ago

Starscourge Seth
Starscourge Seth•12mo ago

Soul
Soul•12mo ago
