Help understanding EULA p2w guidelines for SMPs
So I run an SMP and am an admin on another. I joined an SMP yesterday that had crates you could buy for like $5 USD that contained netherrite tools. Could someone explain to me why this is or isn’t against the EULA? What is considered a “gameplay advantage” on an SMP. And b4 you say read the EULA I’ve read it and the commercial use guidelines extensively (and the august update) but the “gameplay advantage” part throws me off. Isn’t anything that allows you to progress farther in the game quicker considered a gameplay advantage? Like obviously selling Sharpness X swords would be a gameplay advantage, but what about regular enchanted netherrite tools?

u could email [email protected]
they are great at helping
and letting u know if something is allowed or not
Thanks I’ll give them a try because I have some ideas for a web store
Mojang intentionally left it vague so it can be judged on a case by case basis
I know and understand the philosophy. I’m just trying to understand how I can best go about complying with it so it’s not left up to chance
It’s always up to chance the best way you can not get hit is by ensuring it’s always a donation and never a transaction
I thought there was verbiage that you couldn't give rewards for donations
there was at one stage but if it’s then provided to the entire server every time someone donates afaik that was still a green flag
Well fuck I’m already non-compliant by giving people the essentials hat command correct? That’s strictly cosmetic but is a donation reward
Plus nicknames and custom prefixes. I assume by that verbiage I’m already non compliant
Are you phrasing it as a donation?
Yes. I’m saying basically, if you want to donate to the server, I can only give you cosmetics. Then upon donation I give them the “donator” rank which has essentials.hat and essentials.nick
I’m unsure by the verbiage of the EULA if that violates it due to it not being a “server-wide” reward for meeting donation goals
Interesting, I am still waiting for a response.
i got a answer less than a hour after i sent a email or so
with them being super nice
3 hours but still*
I even sent it from my private e-mail from a trusted mail provider, but it's still possible it was marked as an spam.
this was from my bogstandard gmail
I will try it one more time from my other e-mail and then give up as Mojang won't likely care about some small server breaking the EULA given that they did not care about large servers breaking it.
just look at #off-topic and ctrl + f jes
and u will see thats not quite true
jes had less than like 30 players average*
Ah, great then.
Well, I will go send another e-mail and then just let the server exist and if they block it then I will simply give up after 5 years.
