Alright so you want to control your entire ubuntu or just make mc servers remotely?
would rather be able to control the whole thing
If entire use RDP or anydesk
its ubuntu server
ssh only leaves you with terminal to my knowledge
not rdp
u can setup vnc
correct thats all i want
Oh yeah forget that
How to Install and Configure VNC on Ubuntu 20.04 | DigitalOcean
Virtual Network Computing, or VNC, is a connection system that allows you to use your keyboard and mouse to interact with a graphical desktop environment on …
ok so im going to help yall out here and say im really bad at all this
like i can pick it up but idk what your talking about. only can do any of this from youtube tutorials
oh wait i see nvm
u could just use tailscale
to access internal network from outside ur network
ok
then just like putty for ssh?
thats what i do rn
no
ok
Tailscale
Tailscale
Tailscale is a zero config VPN for building secure networks. Install on any device in minutes. Remote access from any network or physical location.
What I'd do is port forward a non standard port for ssh (some isps don't let you port forward 22) set ssh to listen on that non-standard port, setup fail2ban, and just use putty like you're used to.
Sorry for the absence im working on making my custom pterodactyl theme
ok fun little annoying thing
xfinity switched their port forwarding to the app
All of these terms and steps are documented plenty online
and its the worst user experience ever
you can only forward one port per computer as far as i understand
Use ngrok or playit.gg if your desperate
ouch
maybe im wrong let me look again
I'm pretty sure you're wrong
u could portforward ur mc port and use cloudflare tunnels to tunnel ssh
You can only forward each port to one pc
what would fail2ban do
protect against bruteforcing
Fail2ban prevents people from brute forcing your server.
is that common
yes
its just a vanilla mc server
It is an internet connected device.
with a whitelist
a entire bot net was made of JUST servers with weak ssh credentials.
ok
If there is an internet connected service, it WILL be scanned and brute forced if possible.
ok thx
i didn't know that
ok so instead of asking yall to step by step it
what should i be googling
like im too dumb to find a guide
Minecraft there isn't really much you can do to "brute force" it, but it will be scanned
nothing seems to match what i want to do
especially for ubuntu server
Each of these things you can Google individually
Wait you dont use GUI?
i just dont even know what to search
no
its just ubuntu server. all command prompt
So
1) Google how to port forward
2) Google how to set ssh on another port
3) Google how to setup fail2ban
4) setup fail2ban
5) port forward your non standard port
6) enjoy your ssh access from outside the network
alright man you gave me exactly what i wanted. my only question is when im outside my network what will i put in for like the address
You can use your ip but if you want it easy and remembarableadghus
If you're outside your house, your house public IP.
If you're inside your home network, use your private IP
and is there any ports i should/should not choose?
trash, use no-ip or duckdns or get a free domain from https://freenom.com
i have a couple things thru freedns
Not guaranteed he has static ip at home, cbf to walk through ddns
i do have static ip
what is cbf
"can't be fucked"
ok guys ill leave you be. Im not going to close the question yet ill report back
thank you so much tho
No worries my friend, report back if you get stuck on any guides or anything
