How do you do backups/what is the best way to create backups?

What is the best way to create backups for your server? I used to use windows Scheduler which saved the server every hour and created a new backup for every day. Is there some kind of way of making an automatic 5 min - 10 min - 30 - 1 hour backup incase something goes wrong inbetween the timestamps I just mentioned?

minecraft automatically saves the world every 5 minutes by default (not a backup), drivebackupv2 is a nice backup plugin, u can use coreprotect + IRP to rollback certain damages without having to make a full backup

on the aspect of local rollbacks, i'd say ledger is also a good option on my own server i just do periodic snapshots of the server files along with ledger tho

ah hadn't realized it was about a vanilla server my guess on how to better go through that issue would be to use a local git repository to save incremental changes maaking a script to save file changes every hour, as an example and then you can just use version control through cli to rollback if you ever need it mind you, that solution might not be optimal for large server files

https://www.duplicati.com/ I use this external program. It’s extremely customizable. It can be a a bit complicated to setup, but it’s worked great for me, super minimal space with the incremental backups, and super super low expense on cpu

Also lots of options to upload ur backups online, and can split backups into multiple parts for online services who limit how big a file upload can be

In an ideal world, you want something smart enough to do a save-all and save-off to take the backup, then a save-on afterwards.

Can you use this application with SSH uploading straight to Google drive?

Hmm thanks for the resource I’ll look into it. Using a cli makes me nervous lol so I’ll probably just see if their interface allows you to connect to sftp using my key pair and then I can figure it out from there. Thanks again

Ah I figured it would be probably easier Im just exploring my options. With my old provider I could just press a button to make a backup but my new one is strictly through winscp so backups are manual. I’ll probably just go with drivebackupv2
