Pants overhaul
Hey y'all
I've been working pretty hard on putting a decent wardrobe together and getting rid of all my old ill-fitting stuff. Since it's summer, I focused on building back up my shorts collection and I feel it's at a good place now. But now I'm feeling in a rut with the pants that I own.
What I own now:
1) Black (slightly faded) skinny Levis 510s. These are a little too skinny for my taste right now, but I'll def keep them
2) H&M beige linen pants that are 2 inches too long that I just got and haven't hemmed yet.
What I've been thinking of getting
1) Pair of deep brown workwear pants. https://www.3sixteen.com/products/work-pant-brown-twill
These are my ideal pair but are way out of my budget. I've been a little stuck on deciding on things like what brand, fabric weight, length, fit, etc. I really would like them to be close to that color though, and wider that a slim fit though.
2) Pair of green/olive chinos or work pants. Again, not sure on the fit to go for here. I'm a slim-taper guy looking to explore the wider fits that are trending
3) Black non-jeans. Not sure where to start here. When I want to pair a casual button down with black pants I've always just reached for my jeans in the past, but I don't really like how they look anymore. I'm also not sure that the wider trousers/linen pants I've seen in inspo albums really work here because they feel too casual for somewhere like a nice restaurant.
4) Blue jeans. Never owned a pair of light wash jeans in my life, so I've been mostly looking for deep indigo. Again, I wanted to expand out of slim jean territory so I tried on a bunch of levis blind without looking at the tag, and decided on a pair I liked best, and it ended up being the 512s which are slim taper so I felt like I was back at square one.
5) Something else funky, like burgundy chinos or something.
Any advice or specific brands/IDs appreciated. Thanks!
Work Pant
The Work Pant features a wide leg fit and high rise reminiscent of classic work pants. We chose a mid-weight chino fabric with a pronounced twill weave that is structured yet drapes well. After sewing, the pants are garment rinsed for a broken in feel. The pant is finished with double needle flat fell seams throughout for extra durability and to...

a pair of fatigues is recommended often for good reason. the fit tends to be looser but nothing crazy wide, it’s comfy, it’s just different enough to be interesting, and it looks great on lots of body types. stan ray is pretty cheap, orslow is more expensive but sometimes great deals on sale or secondhand
Stan Ray OG Painter Pants
Thanks for the advice! is the material on fatigues on the heavier or lighter side? Never owned a pair and don't really know what they are
It depends on the brand, usually it’ll be made in either a mid weight twill or sateen, something you can wear all year round.
It’s basically just a pair of pants with a) nice big front patch pockets and b) a slightly looser, but not wide, fit
Something you can wear year round, like a good pair of jeans
Deffo try the sateen if you want. It mixes really well with other workwear-y fabrics.
I took another look at your list of pants and honestly you should look through a selection of what Orslow makes. Even if it’s out of your price range, you can find out what things you like from them and search for similar elsewhere. I recommend looking at the fatigues, the m52 pants, the French work pants, and the vintage fit army trousers
Stan Ray is a great budget option. Look into their fatigues in black and green, and the painter pants as well. You can find them pretty cheap online at uniform supply shops. I'd research sizing a bit, they run pretty small iirc. I've also seen some people in WAYWT wearing wider pants from the Gap, might be worth looking into there. Uniqlo would also be good to check out for your budget.
Thanks everyone! I'll def pick up a pair of olive/green fatigues at some point. It looks like even Stan Ray is pushing my budget a little (I'm in grad school lol).
I'm trying to decide on a pair of brown workwear-style pants but I'm not sure what brands are quality. Here are the pairs I'm looking at rn:

I'm really just trying to get as close as possible to that 3sixteen pair I linked in the OP. The RSQ pair from tilly's is what I'm leaning towards, but I've never shopped from there and am not finding much info on their quality.
I can't speak to Tilly's, but I'd say avoid cotton on - they're pretty bad quality.
dickies are solid, you'll definitely be fine there
Thanks again!
