finishConnect(..) failed: Connection refused
Hello,
I was directed here when trying to view a Reddit thread, https://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/comments/zlavbp/finishconnect_failed_connection_refused/, dealing with this issue. Until about 4 AM EDT yesterday, it was a java 1.19 vanilla server hosted on Ubuntu 22.04 that was working fine. About an hour after the last user disconnected, the server accepted one user, placed it in a random cave instead of where the user disconnected, and then forcibly disconnected the user about five seconds later.
It's been refusing connections ever since (even with "server.properties" configured for "online-mode=false" changed from "true"). I have: restarted the server; stopped and started the server; stopped the server, performed package updates to the OS, and rebooted the host. Prior to this new error, sometimes the client would display "decrypting" until it timed-out. Searching the Internet hasn't been fruitful, so I was hoping the aforementioned Reddit thread I cannot view would have shed light on the issue and, perhaps, a resolution

never set it to offline-mode
It was a suggestion to try in the limited information I could find. I reverted it after that failed to allow a connection.
@Mortis google cache doesnt have it mind getting the comments?
only has 2 of em
Thanks. It wasn't as helpful as I though it would be.
I'm reviewing the logs and it looks like the server keeps crashing but I've yet to find a cause.

Please check your server log for errors from your plugins.
If you need further help understanding the errors, please send us the whole log file.
Where can I find the server log?
Logs are stored in
<server_directory>/logs/
. Search for a file explorer in your server's management interface and navigate to that directory. Once you've opened that up, search for the latest.log
file. Some providers have a separate page for logs and may hide the "logs" folder.
On Aternos:
• Go to https://aternos.org/log/.
On Minehut and server.pro:
• Go to the "files" tab in the left menu.
• Navigate to the root directory of your server.
• From there navigate to /logs/latest.log
.
What should I do with the log?
• First of all, read it! I mean, that's what you do all the time when you run a server, isn't it? Try to locate any errors that have anything to do with the issue you are facing.
• If you got the latest.log
file or created a .txt
file with the necessary errors you can upload these directly to the channel, but we prefer if you upload them to https://mclo.gs/.
• If you have trouble downloading the log file, copy/paste the text to a paste service (like mclogs). Copy the link that it gives you and send it to us. (Don't worry, McLogs hides your users' IPs.)Admincraft Canned Responses
Thanks.

I think 1.7 something; let me check.
Way off.
root@ubuntu:/home/ubuntu# java --version openjdk 18.0.2-ea 2022-07-19 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 18.0.2-ea+9-Ubuntu-222.04) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 18.0.2-ea+9-Ubuntu-222.04, mixed mode, sharing) root@ubuntu:/home/ubuntu#
try java 17
18 isnt a good version to use
Oh. Okay. Let me give that whirl.
I wanted to post an update in the event someone encounters this looking for a solution. I ended up moving the server from the Raspberry Pi 4 8GB to an old (circa 2013 i7 quad with 64GB) gaming PC (still running Ubuntu 22.04) along with configuring it for Crafty Controller. When I was finally able to get the server working, I found that it contained corrupted chunks that could not be repaired. I reverted to a much older backup and made certain to configure CC for automatic, daily backups.
It has been working without incident ever since.
