“Performance” dress shirts with elastane?
So I have a muscular build and most dress shirts are really uncomfortable around my arms. I tried a Zara atheltic dress shirt and was nice, about 25% elastane. What other alternatives are out there that would not break the bank? Thanks

Your dress shirts should not be so tight they are uncomfortable or require elastane.
I agree, but I cant pull off any of the cotton ones 😞 it actually stops bloodflow in my arms. I have 17 inch biceps, so when I use a slim fit cotton shirt I cant move my arms
What's your budget? Can you afford made-to-measure or bespoke?
Cheap isn't really cheap if it doesn't fit you and you never wear it.
Don't buy slim fit?
Thanks but then my it gets really saggy around my belly and looks really bad. Im not trying to be annoying, I just need help. Thanks
I still have to pay off my student debt so I would like to keep it below $100
Can a tailor take in the fit in the chest? Is there a guide anywhere to getting your clothes altered? Like, what is possible/easy/hard?
You can get the waist taken in by a tailor to solve this, and it might be easier/better than searching for what are likely to be bad shirts.
Or go to Proper Cloth etc for made to measure which aren't too badly priced.
Thank you, do you think Indochino could work as tailor made until I can improve my budget?
I will checked out Proper Cloth, Im in toronto btw
don't buy indochino
you probably don't need MTM. Just buy something that fits your neck and biceps and get the shirt taken in by your local tailor
There's a Suit Supply in Toronto which I understand to be a step up from Indichino fwiw
Spier and Mackay is also in Toronto. You can make an appointment for a fitting on their website.
They're not in Toronto, but they're close.
Thanks everyone! So buy a cotton shirt that fits (I can get good enough brands like Michael Kors in my local Marshalls for less than $40) and then take it to a local tailor. I wonder what kind of alterations/ prices should I consider as normal and not overpay
I'd rather spend $40 at Uniqlo than a Michael Kors shirt at Marshalls tbh
I'm not local to you, but slimming the waist on a shirt costs me £10-30 depending on the extent it needs doing. Canada probably isn't going to be wildly different.
Oh really? Is Michael Kors bad quality?
Im new to this and I thought that Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Tommy were good brands
You can also get your measurements and have it on hand if you are always struggling to find clothes from web shops. if you have any clothes in your closet that fits very nicely, i’d save those measurements and compare when online browsing
At that price point you are better off getting vintage brooks from ebay
Thanks, im trying my best with the budget I have. I would love to be able to spend more, but I just cant right now.
They put in the elastane for the stretch I guess. Nothing wrong with it but they tend to give off a sheen. For me, I prefer my shirts to be 100% natural materials. Socks and underwear I dont mind the plastic combination
Try State and Liberty if you have one nearby
Only try state and liberty if you seek to overpay for shirts.
So if I will alter the shirts, what brands should I be looking into?
