Making a thread as this is sidebar-of-sidebar – I mean, if I understood you correctly, you said something like "unless your program runs everywhere it is better not to write it." But I'm trying to tell if you actually mean that.
No, I'm saying that I care about this project, and I don't want to see it turn into a program that doesn't run everywhere
So at all costs, don't bother chasing bad ideas, useless fake-portable formats, etc.

to be fair, wayland isn't exactly the most optimal 2D display server protocol but it's the best we've got so far
and idk, i'm not sure making another one would do any good
