Using CNAME flattening with the root changes the @ to the domain name.
When I try to set the root as a CNAME it changes the @ to my domain name, then I can only connect with domain.com.domain.com, which is weird. I'm not very experienced in domains, and I have tried searching for a solution, but I haven't found one.

The dashboard converting @ to your domain name is normal behavior, it shouldn't be doubling it though. Are you using the Dashboard directly, or through the API/something else? What is your domain/what does your DNS Records tab look like (with any sensitive origin ips blurred)?
I'm using the dashboard directly, and I just checked it seems to be working, I think I was too impatient and I should have waited longer.
