there's a sundress, nightgown, evening dress, cover dress,
you can have casual dresses or more professional ones
you can have ones that are good for variety of situations
evening dresses are typically used for stuff like fancy dinners or winery's

Interesting! I know there are many cultures that use dresses for reasons other than sleeping, never heard of one using dresses only for sleeping.
In many Western + European cultures dresses are commonly used for several different occasions
In some Asian cultures as well, such as Kimonos!

Canada, America, Mexico, many white European cultures (i.e. Victorian era had a LOT of fancy dresses in Europe)
Most dresses are usually worn on women, but that doesn’t mean they’re exclusive to women
