Players struggling to connect
Hey, we have a few players who always struggle to connect to the server. They get timed out messages.
This is the console when they try to join, is there anything in here that suggests why they struggle so much?

If you're using purpur, you could try enabling
use-alternative-keepalive
https://purpurmc.org/docs/Configuration/use-alternate-keepaliveit is pufferfish i think, whatever that is?
you must wait X seconds before logging-in againThat's not a vanilla message Nor is it in any proxy solution I know
Apparently grief prevention uses that exact wording
Weird
double checked, and yeah

GriefPrevention Documentation
Setup+Configuration
How to configure GriefPrevention to your particular requirements (although the defaults will suit most!)
I have disabled the spam feature of griefprevention, I may swap my server.jar to a purpur one later today and see if the alternative keepalive keeps some users online
purpur is built on top of pufferfish, and shouldn't change any behaviors by default
It is very unlikely that it would help tbh.
I swapped from one host to a new host to try and fix lag issues, I may have to swap back if people can't physically join
The premise of the purpur alternative keepalive works on the assumption that the TCP protocol lets packets drop without resending them natively. Which isn't how TCP works.
Yeah, I was wondering how much it actually helps tbh
I keep having crashes on top of the connection issues, all great stuff for player retention 🤣
I will say that at least where I work, we'll try to report connection issues to our service providers and hopefully sort everything out for our customers
just unsure what policies other hosts have for connection issues
they set up a direct ip for us, bypassing their ddos protection (i presume cloudflare)
didn't seem to do much
yeah, that's funky
I know that OVH Quebec has really big connection issues in parts of the US (or did like 3 years ago)
Have the timing out users do Winmtrs
