How many cores/ threads do modded minecraft servers need/ use
I’ve heard that servers only use up to 3 cores at a time but this was a while back so i want to ask what’s recommended since hosts differ in the number of cores/ threads that they give you

Minecraft is a single threaded game. Sort of... Well it is true that a single server runs on a single core, certain tasks can be offloaded on to other cores to help with performance. Many server softwares do this, such as paper. It really depends on how many servers you want to run.
Just 1 modded forge server realistically
The core count differs from various hosts tho
I would recommend making a post in #marketplace
I did a while ago and got a few recommendations, but besides price they differ in core count offerings for their same memory tier of stuff, sparked has 3 cores, witherhost has 4 iirc, enviromc also has 4 so not sure how to choose between them
It just really also depends of the strength of each core. Its all about hardware. Well also software I guess. If there are any free trials, use them and test out each host to find which is best. Also does one host have a cool feature or better server management?
I’ve gone with sparked before but i was trying to see if there were better deals or experiences with other hosts, personally don’t know how the others stack up or if there are trials for them
All i’ve gathered is that sparked isn’t the best out there but no clue as to why is that the case
What exactly is your budget? That plays a big role in deciding who to go with
Also how many players do you plan on serving? Keep in mind, you can always upgrade
~$20 US , 8-10 people. My default was to go with sparked again around 8-10 gb enterprise, last time i only got 7gb but i was thinking if i could get more bang for the buck from other hosts
Ok neato, I am looking at pricing right now. Just to be sure, you are saying around 20 bucks a month correct?
Yeah around that
If there are any promos or discounts thats a plus
Ok, I think it makes sense to go with one of the big names
On it!
Oh and its APAC/ singapore for the region
Oh, quick question, where do you want the region?
oops sent right as u said
Enviromc has that $8 additional fee for singapore servers so i’m hesistant to go for them
Beans can do deals for singapore iirc
I'm going to compile all your options here and then we can compare from there. This is https://ggservers.com
Beans?
owner of enviro
Oh i thought he was just a rep my bad
nop he is the indeed the owner
But yeah he’s the one who offered a deal with enviro when i asked in markeplace
6 bucks a gb is absurd

Thats about the same spec (for # cores, ram and memory) as sparkedhost

What cpus do they use
just got a new singapore node (sin-03-p) with a 5800x. Other servers are a Xeon 2288G (about equivalent to a i9-9900k)
I want to ask about your storage policy
By default, your server gets assigned I believe either 40gb or 50gb, if you need more, you can contact support and we'll supply up to 150gb free of charge. If you need more than 150gb, we can work something out (only one customer currently is going over 100gb)
That means i have to make a support ticket for that right?
yeah, if you're a premium customer, then you can open a ticket in our discord if you claim your role
I see
How much better is 4 vcores than 3
probably won't make a difference in most situations
I went with sparked last time but they only had 3 cores, you guys offer 4 cores with the 10gb premium turtle plan tho
paper has multithreaded chunk generation, which can greately improve the speed for new chunks to get generated, however, more cores won't increase the actual tps of your server in most cases
and the multithreaded worker-threads is calculated in a weird way and probably would only default to one or 2 threads in most cases on shared hosts
How about for forge servers?
My use case is for modded minecraft
probably about the same tbh
the only software that can really take advantage of multiple threads for increasing TPS would be Folia, which isn't quite production ready yet (and will likely never support forge/fabric mods)
I see
What do you guys do different from other hosts?
honestly, not that much
I think wither hosting looks like a good deal and would be my recommendation
If you do end up going with them, use this discount:
you betcha ;)
