Confused on Server JAR FIle
I'm trying to set up a Minecraft server to play with some friends. We want to have some basic plugins like being able to do stuff like /home and /tp and stuff like that. We also want to do some light mods (but not familiar with that process yet). I've bought a server on extravm.com and I'm trying to figrue out what JAR file to run. I read some stuff online about Spigot being outdated but I also saw a bunch of stuff about like Tuinity and Pouper or something? These are the options I see and not sure what to do:

use paper and u need the plugin Essentials
Would I be able to run mods on that as well?
no
u cant do that on any supported server jar
there are essentials clones for forge/fabric tho

I see these Forge options
Would I be able to use one of those?
well forge will work
just not with plugins
Ah okay, so i can use one of these Forge options, and get the essentials clone right?
yes
Awesome makes sense
What's the difference between all these Forge options?
Would I just use forge.jar (Java 8)
well noone here uses extravm
so it depends on your host
Oh is there a better site to do this with?
#marketplace

Would the Forge 1.19.4 option be good for what I'm looking for?
what version of mc would u wanna run?
Oh good point, probably the latest
I chose Install your own custom jar
Forge Files
Minecraft Forge downloads
Downloads for Minecraft Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1
Latest: 47.0.43
Going to try this?
If your looking at running modded minecraft on the latest version, look at running forge or fabric 1.20.1. Your server host also provides the option to upload your own, so even if the latest version isn't currently listed there, you can upload it and run it. I would check what mods you want and see if they are running on forge or fabric. Its like iPhone vs Andriod: its just about which apps you want to use!
You want to get the server jar for it, not the client side, so download the installer and run it, selecting server jar then upload that jar
you want to select this

If your host has it, its easier to select forge 1.20.1 instead of doing it manually.
Hey! So I installed Forge 1.19.4 on the server
I'm using Winternode.com

I've put these jar files into my mods folder
But I'm getting this error when I try starting the server:
Mod ?enaturalist?r requires ?6geckolib3?r ?o3.1.9 or above?r
?7Currently, ?6geckolib3?r?7 is ?o?nnot installed
I don't understand why it's not working. I have geckolib in my mods folder
u downloaded naturalist for 1.19.2
Oh are 1.19.2 mods not compatible with Forge 1.19.4?
I thought that it would be compatible since they're the same major versions
no
