How Can I Create A link based IP for a local hosted server
Pardon for any wrong terms I use, while I understand how to run a server for minecraft both locally and off a paid host I don't always understand the technical side of it.
We're setting up a dedicated server tower in my house, vs paying for a host, but I want to be able to give them a redirect that looks like a weblink (like my last server was nuthouse.minecraft.best) instead of giving them the ip address particularly because this one would be hosted from my home
How would I set about doing that? Would it require another program? I know I'll have to pay for the web domain I'm sure

Domains are not reverse proxies and do not do anything to hide your IP.
you can use noip.com to generate a hostname for you to send, note that people can still log with your IP
okay I had to google reverse proxy, the more I learn the more pc stupid I feel, thank you both for giving the the answer and giving me more to look into
I'm less worried about hiding my ip and more so focused on making it so that its easier to determine what server they are trying to connect to since I maintain several
Well you most likely want a dynamic dns
https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/dns/glossary/dynamic-dns/ - explains what this is
Cloudflare
Dynamic DNS | Cloudflare
Dynamic DNS keeps DNS updated with a site's correct IP address, even if it changes frequently.
Do you already have a domain?
Thank you all, noip does do dynamic dns and that was the term so I'll be able to research more
I don't have a domain yet, because I didn't know what I was looking for in terms of the redirect
I'll start reading on the page you've linked
with noip you get a domain like NAME.ddns.net or the various other domain.X choices
they wont let you do Subdomain.Name.ddns.net which you may want to do to seperate your MC server with your "website"
Luckily noip does have the tool to let your dns auto update its IP if whatever ur hosting on changes its IP frequently
I'll do more research now that I know the appropriate terms since it'll be a few weeks before I can even think about bringing a server online
it really depends on your setup
if you just want a mc server then noip is fine
Stuff like mc servers or you wanting to do play.domain.net etc you're better off with a domain of your own.
Esp if you host multiple smps
its just for minecraft, I've got 3 servers so I want to make it easier for my players to connect to the right one
duckdns is even better cause you don't have to renew the ddns
alright just covering most use case
happy minecrafting
they're currently using that so i assume they alrdy got the domain they want and wanna make use of the client. idk if duckdns has an auto updating dns client
it has that said noip every month needs renewal like you need to login into noip or the domain expires
with noIP you gotta check email for a link i believe

nope you gotta login every month and press a button to renew your domain
I used it for about 2 years it was super annoying
