Tips/Lessons learned from your own server's economy and chest shop.

Hi there, not looking for only plugin suggestions, just discussion on what works well and what doesn't. Dynamic prices? Starting Prices? Time is money? What are your thoughts.

i'm kind of lazy and just use the values essentialsx has in their worth.yml then as problems come up adjust them, would be curious wat the other lads are doing

I always play for a certain amount of time and count everything that I craft, recolected, etc. Based on that I adjust the prices, for example, in towny, how much time take the players to claim a Town without getting bored, if it's like 5 hours I will play for that time and put a starting price for the items, money that get playing=cost of Town

biggest thing I've seen, is that if someone can be farmed, it will be farmed. Sugar cane, Cactus and anything on farmland will be farmed passively by afk players. If that's not handled correctly, money can become worthless/unfair to players that don't have farms

Don’t use economyshopgui or shopgui+ unless you want to allow players to essentially cheat. Players that use it will become insanely rich and never grind for anything again. The best thing you can do for your server is use ezchestshop to allow players to buy and sell actually in game items and let the free market do its thing.

yeah, one of the best economies I've probably seen was one where there was only a marketboard to list items, with the server only selling items, and giving away money for like a daily vote Worked well because it was a modded server and a lot of items were hard to craft, very easy to convince a user to vote to pay for the item you're selling

Hmm yeah I like that. People can buy stuff from the server at a set price, but to sell items, players would need to make their own shops.

I actually do the opposite on my server. Players need a way to make money without being forced to build a shop, otherwise you have to add "jobs" or quests or some other external factory to the game. This is all well and good but can make things complicated and changes the whole nature of the server. Instead, I opted to add economyshopGUI and set the permission to shop to false so that people could only sell to the server shop. I made the sell prices really low so people could make some money, but could make much more money setting up their own shop.
