Archive Feature and third party apps

Hello,

I have just finished my first installation of Immich and after the first tests I am quite enthusiastic. Mainly I am looking forward to the Free up Space feature, which hopefully will be finished soon.

What I still do not quite understand is the archive function. This is unfortunately not documented. What exactly does it do?
I would have expected that when I archive an image, it is only available online.

I also wonder how I can access images stored in Immich, which are only available online, from third-party apps. For example, if I want to send a picture from WhatsApp, which exists on the Immich server, but not on the device. How can I achieve this? It would probably be best to enable Immich as a provider in third-party apps.

I am looking forward to the answer.

Archive excludes a photo from showing up on the main photos timeline. And immich cannot be picked as a photo or file sharing option yet, for use from 3rd party apps

We track stuff like with with feature requests on github. I think there might be one for some of these topics already. You could double check and create a new one there isn't one.
