where do yall live?
Just got accepted for SIA CPA September 2023 as an international student (russia) and was wondering where it would be best to live. From my research, the Newnham residence seems like a solid option, but I'm curious if there are any cheaper or more convenient options elsewhere. Will appreciate any advise, even not related to the question ❤️

Look into kijiji.ca - it's where you'd find roommates and other housing options. I will say, residence is pretty bad as for cost/benefit

(I gotta look for a roommate myself.. ) бля
now the prices for renting apartments have jumped a lot, but you can find a room / apartment / house (depending on your budget) for rent in kijiji or facebook marketplace
but of course it's better to rent a room or apartment with a friend, because it's much cheaper
when I saw the prices for the residence, I was a little freaked out, because I could rent a room for almost 3 times cheaper
of course it causes difficulties such as traveling to campus by bus, but still it is much cheaper than a residence, I don’t understand for whom they set such price tags
thank you a lot, I will look into that
now I need a friend..
nice steam profile btw
haha, thanks
Not only, but residence has dumb rules just for the sake of it. Bad internet, bad quality of.. many things
I mean, if you're short, maybe it'll work out... (my basement has low ceilings, would not work for all heights)
Ig youre right
what's the point in talking in English in this thread, we all speak russian here lmao
Cause its english-speaking server

Did you get accepted to the SIA campus? Cause that one is different than the newham one
I think bussing from newham to SIA is a pain cause there's no direct bus (I think ) from Newham to SIA.
Imo you want to live on highway 7 (there's a lot of busses that run on this street it's a big street )
Toronto's transit system is trash compared to EU
well, actually you can use seneca transfer buses
its free and you can travel between campuses very fast
like 20-30 mins from SIA to Newnham
so I think its not a big problem at all
thats true, I really like Markham for that
Ooh I didn't know they transfer busses between campus. Thanks for pointing it out
Ya I love how they have dedicated bus lanes now.

im 175, hopefully ill fit
Did you just +1 me. That's hilarious hahahahah
A little off but a suggestion is to also look for basement rentals if thats up your alley . They tend to be a decent amount cheaper, especially if its one with roomates within the same common space.
If you can afford, newnham campus is good place. If you want something cheaper, then will have to share place most likely with someone else, for example condo or house. I am also from Russia and was searching for place on Kijiji and just moved in together with 2 my friends in am 3 bedroom apartment. It is much cheaper than residence
We need to all meet
I just remembered that im 17 and I will have trouble renting lol
Da.
will you come here when you are still 17 years old?
yeah, until november
I came to canada at 17, I didn't have problems
even with rent, sim cards and other legal stuff?
The only problem was with a work permit for a co-op
So, yea
cool
Wait, didn't you have difficulties with finding a place to live? I kind of thought if you are under 18, then you should find special housing with some kind of family
it seems that you cannot rent an ordinary room, you just need to find a room in a special program
yea I was also thinking about finding a family or smth
I have not had this experience, but it seems to me that this is a small problem
No, I don't remember that being a thing
Oh, alright then
