❔ Doing freelance work. What is the right skill level to start it? Doing it to develop skills?
Hello! I'm looking for some advice on this subject. I'm currently working on small projects to develop my C# fundamentals and will soon start learning ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework and start building projects using those technologies. But I eventually want to start doing freelance work using Dotnet with the intent to gain experience/build my portfolio so that I can get a good job in the future.
Is this approach a good idea? I've heard that you can gain some very good experience since you build soft skills and learn to work with clients.
Also, based on my current skill level, when is it the right time to start? Should I start once I build a few projects using ASP.NET Core. I feel like I currently don't have the necessary skills at the moment but I might be wrong.

Personally I would think its probably going to be more difficult to get freelance jobs with little experience than to get a jr level position
Alright, so I might as well just look for jr level positions rather than freelance work. The only reason I was considering freelance work was to build experience to get a job but it sounds like I should just build my skills through personal projects and then just start looking for jr positions and get more experience from my job.
You’re asking for a lawsuit to promise services you don’t know how to do tbh.
Thanks you guys. It makes sense, “why do someone want to hire you for freelance work if you have so little experience”. I wouldn’t promise a service that I don’t have the skills for but I see what you mean that I still have a ways to go in developing my skills. Is there a point where freelance work makes sense because from what it sounds like, it doesn’t look like it’s worth it.
Sometimes you can find community work; churches, rural schools, etc.
Ah I see. Thanks for clearing this up for me. I really appreciate it!
