No big secrets there: practice is the key.
Start with learning fundamentals: alignment, spacing, consistency, simplicity, basics of color... very important thing is to learn typography...
Start to learn tools, start seeing more designs, try to analyse and memorise - having this "memory" is really important...
Aesthetics, styles, history, trends - the more you into the design the better you'll be at it... and practice, practice, practice... your works may not be most awesome from the start, so enjoy the process)) Oh, and critique will be all over and all the time, so get most of it to become better and don't let it stop you))
